TESTIMONIALS
“Working with Hunter and David was an unbelievable blessing for our family building our first and forever home. I can’t recommend them more highly. In evaluating builders, the thing that stuck out most was the transparency and patience they showed in walking through costs, what specifically was driving them and working with us to optimize for that which we cared most. Additionally important for us was the passion they shared for bringing our vision to life.
They very openly walked us through numerous iterations and scenarios. By comparison, nearly every other builder we spoke with leveraged their experience and knowledge not to help us understand but to justify a price or a procedure that we felt didn’t make sense. Hunter and David were exceedingly humble and hardworking and went above and beyond to ensure that we were able to not only build the house of our dreams but to exceed this. They didn’t nickel and dime us - rather they allowed us to pursue any of the vendors we chose, almost certainly making the process more difficult or even less profitable. As an example, we were able to fill our home with light fixtures and plumbing fixtures we love. Some antique, some from overseas, many of which were either more affordable or more unique than what is found in most home building stores. One other builder we spoke with gave us the same allowance for lighting fixtures and plumbing fixtures but the rigidity in where we sourced them meant that we would have only been able to afford builder grade nickel faucets, mostly recessed lights and have to pay out of pocket for a stand alone bath. Instead, we were able to get chandeliers and upgraded lighting in every room, antique brass plumbing fixtures, and a beautiful insulated tub all within the same budget. As I see it, the only way this happens is that Hunter and David were willing to work with dozens of places for sourcing, different shipping times, different types of installation, etc. and didn’t work with companies for the sake of their own kickbacks.
Communication was both personal and frequent. Hunter or David were at the job site essentially every day - not managing from a desk or 5 other job sites. They patiently worked through our - at times - changed ideas, additions, or questions with transparency and collaboration. They were hands-on, catching things, confirming things, and ensuring we stayed on track to the point of stepping in to do things themselves as needed whether it was a bench for our shower, reframing a door heading, installing cabinet hardware, or even sweeping and cleaning windows to not only stay on track but actually end ahead of schedule. Ultimately, it was clear that they built this house as if it were their own - but more than that, they took the time to listen to what we wanted and they built that. Every feature of our house was customizable and they were incredibly patient and committed to that vision - not just meeting some vague standard - their standard was built on our vision. Designing a home from scratch is a very personal experience and ours certainly had features that made things more difficult (lots of intricate moldings, several gothic arches, and an octagonal tower to name a few) Never did it feel like we were paying above and beyond for the difficulties, but rather that they were excited to bring our vision to life.
Of the few frustrations we experienced in our build, the primary reason for these was the result of the engineering of our plans by a different company. If I could provide one piece of advice it would be to pay extra to an architect or engineer in order to understand these fully and schedule time with Hunter and David to confirm everything on there such as where a water heater will go, electrical panels, light switches if there are stud columns, etc. David and Hunter walked us through all of this during the project of course, but I would say for prospective homeowners that doing this at the beginning would help and I’m sure David and Hunter would spend the time to walk through it all. Of course with any project of this size and numerous trades coming in and doing different work there will be things that aren’t perfect. But with Holliman Contracting that was never the end of the story.
We lived on the property through the entire build and got to see the whole process firsthand which was super helpful. I probably walked through the home build every day. The attention to detail and Hunter and David’s consistent presence throughout gave me extreme confidence in its ultimate success.
Our family of 5 are overjoyed to be in our Victorian inspired home and will forever be grateful to David and Hunter for their diligent work and the care that they put into every part of this home.
We are thrilled to have found them. Having spoken with a dozen or so other builders and having gone start to finish with Holliman, I would make the same choice each and every time. You won’t find a more thoughtful and committed home builder in the area who will actually take the time and personal effort to learn your unique wants and style and to bring your project to life.”
